Cutting and Tattoos

Maybe you know someone in need of prayer for these spirits. Here are some bible based answers.

As a friend remember these issues will not keep someone out of Heaven, ( if they are already saved) but their life will continue to be in torment.

Mark 5  The Message Bible

The Madman

1They arrived on the other side of the sea in the country of the Gerasenes. 2As Jesus got out of the boat, a madman from the cemetery came up to him. 3He lived there among the tombs and graves. No one could restrain him—he couldn’t be chained, couldn’t be tied down. 4He had been tied up many times with chains and ropes, but he broke the chains, snapped the ropes. No one was strong enough to tame him. 5Night and day he roamed through the graves and the hills, screaming out and slashing himself with sharp stones.

6When he saw Jesus a long way off, he ran and bowed in worship before him— 7then bellowed in protest, “What business do you have, Jesus, Son of the High God, messing with me? I swear to God, don’t give me a hard time!” 8(Jesus had just commanded the tormenting evil spirit, “Out! Get out of the man!”)

9Jesus asked him, “Tell me your name.

He replied, “My name is Mob. I’m a rioting mob.” 10Then he desperately begged Jesus not to banish them from the country.

Mark 5 The Bible in Modern Speech

Jesus Cures a Demon-Possessed Man

1So they arrived at the opposite shore of the Lake, in the country of the Gerasenes. 2At once, on His landing, there came from the tombs to meet Him a man possessed by a foul spirit. 3This man lived among the tombs, nor could any one now secure him even with a chain; 4for many a time he had been left securely bound in fetters and chains, but afterwards the chains lay torn link from link, and the fetters in fragments, and there was no one strong enough to master him. 5And constantly, day and night, he remained among the tombs or on the hills, shrieking, and mangling himself with sharp stones.

6And when he saw Jesus in the distance, he ran and threw himself at His feet, 7crying out in a loud voice, “What hast Thou to do with me, Jesus, Son of God Most High? In God’s name I implore Thee not to torment me.” 8For He had said to him, “Foul spirit, come out of the man.”

9Jesus also questioned him. “What is your name?” He said.

“Legion,” he replied, “for there are a host of us.” 10And he earnestly entreated Him not to send them away out of the country.

Mark 5  New King James Bible

1 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.”

8 For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”

And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”

1Kings 18: 24

24Then you pray to your gods and I’ll pray to God. The god who answers with fire will prove to be, in fact, God.”

All the people agreed: “A good plan—do it!”

25Elijah told the Baal prophets, “Choose your ox and prepare it. You go first, you’re the majority. Then pray to your god, but don’t light the fire.”

26So they took the ox he had given them, prepared it for the altar, then prayed to Baal. They prayed all morning long, “O Baal, answer us!” But nothing happened—not so much as a whisper of breeze. Desperate, they jumped and stomped on the altar they had made.

27By noon, Elijah had started making fun of them, taunting, “Call a little louder—he is a god, after all. Maybe he’s off meditating somewhere or other, or maybe he’s gotten involved in a project, or maybe he’s on vacation. You don’t suppose he’s overslept, do you, and needs to be waked up?” 28They prayed louder and louder, cutting themselves with swords and knives—a ritual common to them—until they were covered with blood.

Leviticus 19:26

28You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

29‘Do not prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry, and the land become full of wickedness.

30‘You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the Lord.

31‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

1 Corinthians 3 :16

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

1 Corinthians 3 :16 Msg. Bible

16You realize, don’t you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you? 17No one will get by with vandalizing God’s temple, you can be sure of that. God’s temple is sacred—and you, remember, are the temple.

1 Corinthians 6:19

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Corinthians 6:19 Msg. Bible

19Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. 20God owns the whole works.

Cut; Cutting

(כָּרַתkārathגָּדַעgādha‛כָּחַדkāḥadhנָתַחnāthaḥἀποκόπτωapokóptōἐκκόπτωekkóptō): Many Hebrew words are translated “cut.” Of these kārath, “to cut down, out, off,” is the most frequent. As “cut off” it is used in the sense of laying or destroying (Gen 9:11Dt 12:291 Ki 11:16Ps 101:8, etc.), also for cutting off transgressors from the community of Yahweh, which meant probably separation, or exclusion, rather than death or destruction (Gen 17:14Ex 12:1519). Other words are dāmam, “to be silent,” “cease” Jer 25:37 the King James Version; Jer 48:2); cāmath “to destroy” (Ps 54:5 the King James Version; Ps 94:23, etc.); gādhadh, “to cut, one’s self,” is used of the cutting of one’s flesh before heathen gods and in mourning for the dead, which was forbidden to the Israelites, (Dt 14:11 Ki 18:28Jer 16:641:547:5); sereṭ, sāreṭeth, “incision,” are also used of those “cuttings of the flesh” (Lev 19:28; compare 21:5). See CUTTINGS IN THE FLESH. The cutting of the hair of head and beard in mourning for the dead is referred to in Isa 15:2; “Every, beard is cut off” (gādha‛), and Jer 7:29gazaz, “Cut off thy hair (the Revised Version, margin “thy crown”), O Jerusalem” (compare Isa 22:12Jer 16:6Ezek 7:18Am 8:10). This early and widespread practice was also forbidden to the Israelites as being unworthy of them in their relation to Yahweh (Lev 19:27Dt 14:1).

The earliest use of printing seems to have been for painting the face or body with ownership, tribal, trophy, or ceremonial marks for worship, war, or mourning. This paint might be temporary or pricked in by the tattoo process. Tattooing itself is rather a writing than a printing process, but may be either, according as the color is laid on by drawing or by the “pintadera.” The “pintadera” or “stamp used to impress patterns upon the skin” is best known from the Mexican and South American

Revelation 20:4

And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished.

Genesis 4:13

13And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”

15And the Lord said to him, Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
